Córdoba Public Library

Córdoba Public Library

The Library is located in a privileged site, an urban park on the border of a wide avenue that covers the railway network. The limit between the inside and the outside of the building is regarded not as a frontier but as a connection with the park built up by means of a transparent façade that unfolds in height towards the park. The general plan of the building adapts to the historical layout of the XVII Century gardens and preserves the existing trees. A light metal roof structure plied with skylights introduces the views of the treetops in the lecture room with views towards the park. In the lower level the children´s area in the garden level and it integrates a X Century stone wall from the Caliphate Period. In the main façade facing the Avenue an aluminium grid unifies the image of the Library towards the city with a continuous and urban presence.
