EUROPAN2. Plot and social housing in Vallecas
Madrid
1991
A curved road network forms a continuous curve from the existing grid and overlays the present urban fabric with low traffic density roads. The vanishing point of the streets lends a new perspective to the complex, avoiding frontal views for the new plot in which the 1188 dwellings are organised in open linear blocks. A major route cuts the project in two parts with different typologies on each side and holds all public facilities. The different levels permit raised up public places and elevated gardens that become places whose intimate ambience is ensured by an interlacing of T-shaped buildings. The open linear blocks in no way exclude a large variety of open public spaces and also small-scale private areas.
