Sea & Salt Museum

Sea & Salt Museum

Torrevieja, Alicante

2022-

The “Eras de la Sal” is an element of industrial heritage from the 18th century for the storage and loading of salt and the main element of the proposal. In this area the project includes The Sea and Salt Museum and an open-air amphitheater for the celebration of the International Habaneras Contest, an ancient musical form, that redraws the maritime border. The proposed solution establishes relationships with the natural and built heritage environment, as well as with the planning of the city by linking the nearby streets.

Also, existing buildings are integrated into the new cultural life of the city, incorporating the restoration of the salt loading trestle, the ancient building for salt administration and an old ice factory. The Museum, under a new garden and with access from the Eras, is illuminated with five large pyramidal skylights that remind us of the salt piles of the old factory.
